Roxanne Jones: Your book gives this really extended case study of the capital region in upstate New York and especially Troy, where you're living. She says Rochester is one of these cities that has undergone in major ways all three of the epochs that you talked about. Jones: It's not the exception that proves the rule, it is the rule, which is just replicated all over the place. The vast majority of cities are like small to mid-sized cities that are constantly having to work on branding themselves,. she says.
