The Longbow on the English Longbow

Xenophon: The Carducians had bows, nearly three qubits long. When they shot, they would draw their strings by pressing with the left foot against the lower end of the bow and their arrows would go straight through shields and breastplates. It reminds me of this passage on the longbow on the English longbow that I read a long time ago in Trevellian's history of England. They actually keep the right hand at rest, they hold the string and then they kind of press the weight of the body into the horns of the bow so they kind of bend the bow.
