Richard dawkins wrote a book called the selfish jean in the late sixties. He was trying to understand how non material culture evolves and is formed. His theory of mometic desire has to do with the imitation of desire, not the imitation of things or ideas. Meam theory is different. It's kind of static itsaus. It's just the unit of cultural information. And i think meams are really important. So from my perspective, you can't really understand why meams work without understanding the memetic desire behind them.
