Tension is something the audience sees conflict for the character. When I was the reader at the beginning of the book, I don't really care yet. If you fall out into space and die. That's not particularly interesting to me. But what is interesting to me is are you going to feel bad about it being your fault that you fell out in the space and died right? It's a way to tap into tensions that people might be feeling in their own lives"
