The History of the Mushrooms

The history of the discovery of these mushrooms by the outside world is quite convoluted and different accounts conflict. In 1916, William Stafford published his paper saying that Tionana Cottle was not a mushroom, it was the peyote cactus. The same year, Schultes went to Oaxaca, joined forces with Reco, and found and collected the magic mushrooms. Wausen becomes the first westerner that we know of to participate in a vallata, in a mushroom ceremony.
