The Sequential Effect of Reading
Edgar Allan Poe invented the detective story and he described it. The sequence of events is deliberately scrambled in order to involve the audience. In a serious book, a learned Tom, I read every other page. This keeps you right on your toes. You're always saying now what was he saying back there? Try it as an experiment. By the way, the teachers of speed reading don't understand this but they've discovered that when they increase the reading speed of people, their memory improves. People who read very fast remember much more.
