The side of the world of histograms is more consuming than the next data points. So, again, you have to make this trade off and decide what you want to do. If you're not aware of what kind of calculations and aggregations of storage is doing when it's downscaling, you can actually have artifacts. And graphite, the original graphite storage engine, which is called a Wisto, actually did this a lot.
