Can Computers Be Conscious?

I wanted to ask you a question that you must have been asked at every dinner party in probably the past decade. Can computers be conscious? And this is a very timely question. We're speaking as all these urgent calls for the regulation of AI after chat GPT and GPT4 doing extraordinary things. And my short answer is I don't think so, certainly not in their current form,. But there's still a lot to worry about in this area.
