Is the Arts Minister Once a Mistake?
Not many people get a second go at government. I'd always aspire to the portfolio. It must have been interesting because you didn't directly follow Garrett as arts minister, Simon Creen. He did say publicly a few times, if it had to go to someone else, he was okay that it was me. There can be a perception that arts is a bit undervalued as a portfolio. And so it's refreshing to hear the ways in which you're excited by it. The new national cultural policy is taking creative Australia as a starting point. That's your kind of jumping off point.
