The Cleaver and the Axeman
In 1910, Joe Davy was killed in New Orleans by a man known as the Cleaver. Police believe he targeted Italian grocers because of an influx of immigrants to the city. The most plausible theory is that his attacks were ethnically motivated. Psychologist Kalina M. Henderson says there are many different theories for why perpetrators carry out hate crimes.
