Silicon Valley Bank has an unusually high level of uninsured deposits. The bank is very specialized in one sector of the economy, obviously, Silicon Valley. When rates rise a lot, that entire portfolio of securities becomes worth less. And then, of course, you add in social media dynamics and the whole thing comes undone.
