Introduction
The first clocks were water clocks about over three and a half thousand years ago, and then sundials. And they developed with quite a lot of accuracy and precision in the many centuries that led up to what we think of as clocks in the 13th century and onwards. David Rooney is former curator of timekeeping at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. He says drinking up time in British pubs played an important role until GPS was invented.
