How Do the Psalms Shape Us for Hope?
Psalm full worship and discipleship may be just what the doctor ordered to build hopeful communities who are prepared for the long and often hard work of fidelity and witness in the waiting time. The psalms come to us with first person pronouns, so that david's prayers become my prayers. In all these texts, the word of god comes to the people of god. But in the psalms, the word is explicitly intended to serve as the words of the people back to god. They no longer sit stagnant on the pages of the bible. No, they bubble up from our gut. They resonate in our throats. They stir affections in our hearts.
