How Do We Make Progress in the Hard Sciences?

i get irritated by the idea that, like stephen hawkings saying, philosophy is dead. But there are still rational standards for the way we make progress in those fields as well. So i anything from literary criticism to philosophy to other types of traditions. There isn't a conceptioal scheme in which basic logic or the law of non contradiction does not hold. And that's whar i think fira bend is on to something, right?
