The Story of Victor and the Story of Shane

The family came out of nowhere from Missouri in 1870, right out of the Civil War. They were northerners and they came to get away from that intersectional violence after the war. The house was 600 square feet, 600 square feet down from this big house. It had a wood floor, but it was made out of the roof that was made of bark, bark from trees. And so I would go in there as a little boy and I look at these things from 1910 and 12 and read the wallpaper. But God, they live like that. We tame the land. We we risked our lives and now you guys.
