How to Do VO2 Max Work

There is a fine line here because you still need to recover enough so that you get in the quality work at a high enough intensity but not go too much above it. I personally, when I do VO2 max work in swimming because I have passive recoveries, I like to go with a two to one work to rest ratio. The other option and perhaps slightly safer option is to increase the distances of those repeats.
