The Relationship of Simple to Complex

Anything that's complex relies upon something simpler than itself in order for it to make sense or to be known. He gives this example because of wanting to make it clear, as he says, there's no better way of doing this than accustoming ourselves to reflecting with some discernment on the minute details of things which we have already perceived. The natural light of our reason doesn't come out fully formed and operating at the best it possibly can be. That's one of the things to me that's so beautiful and wonderful about his notion of a method is that we have this innate capacity that needs to be trained and honed so that operates as best as possible.
