Katherine sanderson is a psychologist and author of why we act, turning bystanders into moral rebels. She says standing up and confidently calling out problematic behavior can make a giant difference in all different kinds of settings. People who do speak up are very good at putting themselves in somebody else's shoes; they don't really care if they look stupid or feel foolish. And people who argue with their parents seem to have practised standing up to authority in some way - playing through that experience seems to give them greater confidence in speaking up.
