We've been able to fission depleted uranium, natural uranium, and thorium. So these have very low radioactivity. None of the proliferation concerns of launching enriched uranium would exist. Both thorium and uranium are present on the moon and they're likely present on Mars as well. And so then you wouldn't be really constrained by the amount of reactors that you could send into space.
