Religion is generally not the problem in political violence, but it can make violent expression more problematic. A religion can cast issues into a cosmic war and give things ultimate significance. It also provides vehicles for mobilization. At the same time, religion gives us a real problem too because we are involved in stigmatizing those who are religious.
