A Brief History of Roman Law

Plague, famine and introduction of coins led to crisis of confidence in the leadership. It was agreed that consular power for the year would be transferred to a body of ten men called the desemvrate. Their main task it would be to collect and condense roman law into a single uniform code. The total contents of the 12 tables have been lost to history. We know generally what topics each table covered but the range in detail gives a fascinating insight into the roman mind. Held within the tables we find the basis for many of our own founding principles.
