Listen to the passage from when they are drawing together. This is, I've said this many times, but this is really my favorite on page 269. Continuing with Dr. Roon, who introduces Digby to Elsie. Do you know that somehow we managed to do what time could not? For all these years, the only image I carried of my mother, the face she's that superseded any other, was of her obscene monstrous death mask. He smells the lavender she placed in her folded cardigans. He feels he is in her arms again. Helpless tears trickle down his cheeks. The living, moving sculpture of their two hands, stutters and then stops.
