Dietary diversity is a very strong predictor of over weight. But the message to eat a variety of foods never referred to junk foods. It always referred to relatively unprocessed, healthy foods. And there if you're eating a diet that contains relatively un processed, healthy food your chances of maintaining a reasonable weight are much better.
