The Importance of Talking to People
Kai: I think we need to quit worrying about, quote, offending people. We need to be able to talk with people and have different points of view. So I went to school in the 60s. My partners and would have gone to work in. It would have been post World War II when women didn't have any jobs to speak up. The job landscape was not comparable. Black women in Alabama where my family was were either were hired as domestics. They worked in agricultural labor and maybe sometimes they worked in higher education, but in black segregated schools.
