The Heroic Deed of Odysseus
Odysseus is a hero because he endures suffering. But not really by virtue of much more than that. For me, his heroism really is tied to a kind of wily intelligence of getting your way. So think about when you were talking about the Cyclops, he very cleverly escapes that situation by playing with language. Oh, that's a good point. And when he puts wax in the ears of all the men on the ship, but not his own, rather tying himself to the mast,. It's because he wants to listen to the song of the sirens without paying the price.
