The Untrustworthyness of Menstruation Apps

Eva Blum-Damontay carried out research for Privacy International, a charity that looks at the intersection of technology and our rights. In her initial research she found that out of 36 of the apps tested, 61% automatically transferred data to third parties. She says it's not just where these apps are sending their data that makes them untrustworthy. The more they know about you, the more valuable this data becomes to companies with targeted efforts. For example, menstrual apps often ask us about how we're feeling psychologically. And another form of very valuable data is the data of pregnant people.
