McCarthy makes a big deal about tarot cards in this because the glanton gang goes to a souscer, they go to a fortune teller Mexican Indian fortune teller and they all get their fortunes told. There's people who argue that everything that plays out in the book after that scene is foretold in the tarot cards but it's a pretty abstract argument I'm not really going to get into it except to say that you note here in the seventh seal that the death and the fool tarot cards are like book ending the film or they're book ending the possession of dancers  and they're coming at the end of the film.
