I feel sorry for Gates that like, he wanted to have been able to achieve the ultimate success, but hasn't been able to get there yet. I didn't get that kind of feeling from it, but I can understand that feeling. She is hilarious, like the start of the second episode, where they ask like, what do you think his brain is like? And she just loses it, right? Because it's just like trying to understand how chaotic she thinks his brain is. Trying to imagine living in that brain feels like hell to her in a way, right?
