History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps

CHAPTER

The Scholasticism of the Sixteenth Century

Gabriel belle was appointed professor of theology at tubingen in 14 84. He had trained at both cologne and erfot, meaning that he learned both the via antiqua and via moderna. But it was an idea associated with the nominalism of the via moderna that became central to his thought. The scientist is discovering the world system that god chose or ordained, when he could just as easily have chosen differently. Beale comes close to taking that dangerous position by teaching that god is obligated to give grace to any one who deserves it.
