The Origins of the FBI
The FBI was an attempt to basically copy the Pinkertons and create this idea that they were these professional investigators not police officers. There's no authorization for it in the Constitution, of course. The country needs some sort of agency that could help coordinate information among state agencies. That would be fine, but that doesn't necessitate any sort of federal police force.
