The Different Views of Public Schooling

There have long been different kinds of strands of, and schools have thought about why you have public education. There's always been a big one that says the function of public education is to take people who have diverse views and force them to be what those with power say are proper Americans. The fundamental issue here is how do you build anything that is public which will not create impositions on a diverse society?
