Jonah's God already notices them, right? He has received and spoke in the very word of Yahweh before. And yet he has to be reminded to do something as simple as pray by whom? By a pagan polytheistic sailor who doesn't know Yahweh from anybody else. So that's the sailor's kind of rebuke to the prophet man of God.
