The French Lancer Regiment - The First Light Cavalry Regiment
The reputation of the hussars came from their fancy uniforms and hard partying, but another part of it came from their almost suicidal bravery and combat. Hussars embraced death and lived every day like it was their last. Perhaps the most famous hussar of the era, general antoine de la salle, once said that any hussar who wasn't dead by 30 was a blackguard. Although he himself made it two 34, when he was killed leading a charge at the battle of vagrum. Another notable sub type of light cavalry is the lancer. All the european great powers maintained lancer regiments until the first world war.
