Oil Refinery Efficiency - Is That Too Simple?

The first sin of thermodynamics is assuming that some process makes more energy than you've put in. And it's totally wrong because it commits what I've been referring to as the second affectionately referred to as the 'soul law' Paul McCartney spent two days filming at a big oil refinery in the UK and was surprised by how much electricity they used. He thinks we could probably run cars about as far on electric power as would be possible with gasoline, diesel or other fuels.
