The Office of Rabbi Sacks
00:00
Introduction
Until that moment, the israelites had been recipients. Virtually everything theyd experienced had been god given. The people complained to mocher and God performed a miracle. This was an unparalleled deliverance at every physical level. But its psychological effects were not good. They became dependent, expectant, irresponsible and immature. Now, however, god gave them something else entirely. It had nothing to do with physical need and everything to do with psychological, moral and spiritual need. Giving confers dignity. Receiving does not. Truma. What do we receive when we give? The lord spoke to moses, saying, tell the israelite to take an offering for me.
