Informal work is recognized as legal, and there's legislation that governs how informal work should happen. But it is also understood that there's a lot of scope for exploitation just simply not paying wages. Ah, a lot of sexual harassment also happens and goes unchecked because people in the informal economy. So anyway, the gig economy flourishes both in the north and the south of india, for sure, also in the western parts of India.
Paris Marx is joined by Noopur Raval to discuss India’s gig economy, the specific conditions of women who provide services through beauty and wellness apps, and how workers organize to improve their conditions.
