9DCC is playing with the idea that you can now surface these invisible threads. For the first time ever, using things like PoAP and IYK and NFC chips and blockchains to be able to create a mapping of how these communities are forming in real time. When you have a provable mapping of how a community is formed, that design space gets really fucking cool.
