By the 1890s, you begin to see the very first tentative steps that society was taking north of 59th Street to live along Central Park. Developers and landowners knew from experience that the city was going to continue growing northward. There was this gap of essentially just empty land waiting to be developed between the 90s and the 60s as society began to inch its way uptown.
