The Relationship Between Humanity and Food

I've been thinking a lot about the relationship between us and our animal brethren of which we ourselves are animals as I experienced a tragedy here on the farm this weekend. If intimacy is defined as a union of particles closely approximating and coalescing or familiarity then our relationship to food couldn't possibly be defined by any other standard. This act of eating an elegant conversation between our environment and our biology humans and the food they hunt and gather and tend and raise is one of the most intimate acts of our existence. Within that the cycles of life death decay and rebirth exist under the domain of intimacy but we have lost our intimacy with food and thus our intimacy with death and decay and birth with it.
