The Importance of Burke in Politics
Burke brought to politics enormous eloquence and intellectual power. But he was nonetheless governed by the agenda set by Parliament itself. So Burke's interests are not his freestanding interests, but rather those thrown up by parliamentary developments in the 60s and 70s and 80s. We tend to associate him a lot of the time with opposition against the French Revolution. His writings and speeches around the American Revolution give a very different idea about that generation earlier.
