In Matthew 25, crowds say his blood be upon us and on our children right in verse 25. This has been leveraged to stigmatize Jews up to the present day; it's a difficult passage but can offer some insight into how we should read it. The people by taking responsibility for the forgiveness of Pilate have done everything they can to avoid death, he says. But when Jesus' blood is on themselves, they're finally persuading the Jewish leaders against him: "You have this final separation"
