The Second Wave of Temperance

After the Civil War, temperance movement started to gain traction. Women who had been busy fighting for end of slavery felt that they had time to tackle a new cause. Their push for prohibition is what we now call the second wave of temperance. In this movement, many writers wrote temperance plays and novels.
