In the West, we have a dualistic mind. We like to separate things. The Eastern has this tradition of the unity of all things and non-dualistic type of thinking. And so when you say something like light and dark, those are two different containers in our categorization system. I think that's where the symbol of water is so powerful because it shows the way that water can be strong in a sense but also soft and yielding.
