The Importance of Trust in Adolescence

Children are born literally pre-wired with some very specific emotional needs. In order to grow and thrive as an adult, children must feel loved and emotionally attached to their parents. When a parent abandons their child, that parent is violating the child's most basic human need, which is to feel valued. The abandoned child often grows up to struggle with guilt and shame.
