There's a patent taken out by an American based in Britain called Charles Urban in 1906 for what's called Kinema colour. The most films are black and white until probably the 1960s so it's not a sudden move. Art deco definitely seems to sort of work its way into cinema buildings. Most famously with the Audian chain which really develops in the 1930s on the back of sound films. So we've got sound suddenly colour. Wizard of Oz is that the first colour film? No no there are colour films before that people are experimenting with colour going way back. It's a bit like adding sound to early cinema.
