A Poor Wafering Man of Grief
Joseph Smith tells Willard Richards and those present, that Joseph says, quote, I have had a good deal of anxiety about my safety, which I never did before. Even on the day before, as it's understood, they have this trial approaching that Joseph is feeling alarm for his personal safety and the safety of the men in the jail. So, I think we see tensions rising, fears in the prisoners there in the jail, and I think we also see that in their interactions with the guards at the jail, particularly on the 27th, they're starting to see more animosity with their guards.
