The Problem With Patriotism
I was introduced to overt racism by going to football, but also to anti-racism. I would have felt pretty awkward thinking about going to an England match. Me and my daughters followed the lionesses around,. and none of those old anxieties were to be seen when the lionesses were winning last summer. Do you sometimes feel that patriotism is getting very hard to define? It's just a really dangerous thing to have. And the way it creates an irrational, emotional commitment right or wrong is bad. Why would you identify with the place you happen to be born in? What's that got to do with anything?
