Chris Pinkham is the co-founder of Amazon's cloud computing service EC2. He and his family moved back to Cape Town, South Africa after leaving Seattle in 2010. The team that builds EC2 was born in isolation with Pinkham talking to colleagues only sporadically. "I spent most of my time trying to hide from Bezos," he said at one point.

So, how DID an online book retailer end up building the infrastructure layer that powers the entire internet? (Or at least 39% of it, per latest market share data.)
