The Importance of Local Color in Painting

When you're thinking about light tones, are you looking at the local color and going from there? What are your goals for that light tone? That's really good question because if some people say, well, sometimes certain things looks really light. And then just under the sun, then that thing becomes lighter or a mid-tone. So within the light tone, there are variations. It's not just one tone. You could break the light tone into a sub- component of three. But I tell my students, don't worry about color. Get the right value. Everything is going to be fine.
