The Importance of a Safe Haven in a Religious Community
There are religious cult communities where when people want to flee, they really need to get out of there. And this would be a case where she suffered amnesia at some point and didn't know who she was. To function in society she needed an identity and so she came up with one. It's difficult to say that this is some kind of proof of anything. But it would explain why she was trying to hide herself and get away.
